Insurance & Billing
Does Kaiun Wellness accept insurance?
Kaiun Counseling is a private pay practice, which means we do not bill insurance companies directly.
However, we can provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Many clients receive partial reimbursement depending on their specific plan and benefits.
In simple terms:
You pay for sessions at the time of service, and your insurance may pay you back.
Making Therapy More Accessible
We believe counseling should be available to people with a range of financial situations. To help with this:
Sliding Scale Spots
Each of our clinicians holds a limited number of sliding scale appointments. These reduced-fee spots are reserved for clients with financial need and may be available depending on the therapist’s current caseload.
Low-Cost Counseling with Interns
We also offer lower-cost counseling with supervised clinical interns. Interns are graduate-level therapists-in-training who receive close supervision and support from experienced licensed clinicians. This can be a more affordable option while still receiving thoughtful, quality care.
If cost is a concern, we encourage you to reach out. We’re happy to talk through options and help you find a path to care that works for your budget.
What Is a Superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt you can use to get money back from your insurance company.
Kaiun Counseling is an out-of-network provider, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. Instead, you pay for sessions at the time of service, and we give you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Think of it like this:
You pay us → Insurance may pay you back.
What’s Included on a Superbill?
A superbill is not just a regular receipt. It includes all the information your insurance company needs, such as:
Your therapist’s name and credentials
Practice information and tax ID number
The date of each session
The type of service provided (session code)
A diagnosis code (required by insurance)
The amount you paid
How Do I Use It?
Attend your session and pay as usual.
Receive your superbill from us (usually monthly or upon request).
Submit it to your insurance company through their website, app, or by mail.
Insurance reviews your claim and may send reimbursement directly to you.
How Much Will Insurance Reimburse?
That depends on your specific plan. Reimbursement is more likely if you have:
Out-of-network benefits
A deductible that has been met (or partially met)
Many plans reimburse 50–80% of the session fee after your deductible, but this varies.
We recommend calling your insurance company and asking:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What is my out-of-network deductible?
What percentage do you reimburse for CPT code 90837 (or 90834)?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions?
Important Things to Know
Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement.
Reimbursement is not guaranteed.
We cannot communicate with insurance on your behalf, but we’re happy to provide the documentation you need.
Need Help?
We’re glad to help you understand the process and provide superbills in a timely way. If you’re unsure how to submit one, your insurance company can walk you through it step by step.
